Serena Williams Rescheduled For Thursday Due To Rain
05.30.2007 PARIS-- Thursday at the French Open in round two Serena Williams takes on Milagros Sequera of Venezuela. Williams has never played Sequera before. Sequera won a Tier IV tournament on clay in Morocco two weeks ago but has not had much success at the main level of the WTA Tour. Serena will need to keep her errors down and not get into long rallies to get the easy win and stay on course for the highly anticipated quarterfinal next week versus world number one Justine Henin of Belgium. Our pick: Serena in two sets.

Serena Williams Wins Rain Delayed French Open Match
05.27.2007 PARIS-- Serena Williams overcame a slow start Sunday to defeat Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 5-7, 6-1, 6-1; winning 12 of the last 13 games. You may remember Pironkova knocking off Serena's sister Venus in the first round of the 2006 Australian Open in three sets. Serena however today fought back after a rain delay with extreme angled groundstrokes. Pironkova played very well to start the match but her level also dropped as Serena's rose.

Time's Glam Slam Serena
05.18.2007 TIME-- Bammer. It's a name jackhammered into the brain of Serena Williams--the two syllables most responsible for why the U.S. tennis diva matters once again. In a chump-change Tasmanian tune-up for the Australian Open earlier this year, Williams, then ranked a paltry 94th in the world, fell to an Austrian named Sybille Bammer in a quarterfinal match. After some serious sobbing, Williams had what she calls her "Rocky moment." The next day, she stuffed a credit card into her sports bra. Full Article

Serena Williams Ousted In Rome Quarterfinals
05.18.2007 ROME-- In the quarterfinals earlier today Serena Williams lost to (14)Patty Schnyder 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(7-5). This was Serena's last scheduled match before the French Open. It seems this was another match where Serena could not make enough shots to win, but some credit does go to Patty who I'm sure kept a lot of balls in play and used heavy topspin to draw some errors from Serena. "I just didn't make the shots I was supposed to make," said Williams. "I probably made 50 unforced errors, which is pretty good to get to 7-6 in the third. I'm going to obviously want to work harder and just do some things differently. Where I am today, in Paris I'll probably be even better."

Serena Williams Rolls Into Friday's Rome Quarterfinals
05.17.2007 ROME-- Friday in the quarterfinals Serena Williams takes on crafty and tricky lefthander (14)Patty Schnyder of Switzerland. Patty's been on the WTA Tour for maybe ten years and is very experienced so Serena will have to watch out for some good tennis from Patty. Head to head Serena leads Patty 6-1, last winning at the 2004 US Open 6-4, 6-2. Thursday Serena beat Shahar Peer in the third round 6-3, 6-3. "It was definitely a good test. She plays a little like (Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario). She gets a lot of balls back," Williams said. "I knew she was going to be a tough opponent on clay. I thought I did pretty well." Note: Serena vs Patty may be shown on the Tennis Channel Live tape delayed Friday evening

Serena Williams Meets Shahar Peer Thursday In Rome
05.16.2007 ROME-- Ok, so Serena is playing Shahar Peer of Israel once again Thursday in round three. Peer depends too much on counterpunching I think to beat Serena, but on this slower clay surface, this would be her best chance. Serena leads Peer head to head 3-0 last winning few weeks ago in Miami 7-6(7-4), 6-1.

Down 2-4 Serena Williams Rallies To Beat Krajicek
05.15.2007 ROME-- Serena Williams recovered from a slow start Tuesday to beat Michaella Krajicek 6-4, 6-1 in the second round after falling behind early 2-4 in set one. Serena had a trainer attend to her left thigh after the first set. "I kept missing and hitting balls out. I wasn't playing my game at all. I was letting her dictate play. But it was a good start. I got to run. She moved me a lot." Serena plays (11)Shahar Peer (ISR) or Ai Sugiyama (JPN) in the third round Thursday at a time yet to be announced.

Serena Williams To Meet Krajicek Tuesday In Rome
05.15.2007 ROME-- Serena Williams this week returns to action in Rome at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia after a recent injury break. Tuesday in her first match in the second round Serena plays Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands. Serena has never played Krajicek before. Her sister Venus beat Krajicek 6-4, 6-3 in Warsaw not long ago. Serena should win this match if she is consistent, injury free and goes for her winners.
